Giving back through commentary, leadership and mentoring drives designer
Kelsey Powell, CKBD and senior designer for KSI Kitchen & Bath in Birmingham, MI, received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from Michigan State University in 2015 and found her passion for the kitchen and bath industry shortly after.
One of Powell’s proudest accomplishments was when she designed, sold and oversaw the fulfillment of cabinetry for the Exchange project in downtown Detroit by LIFTbuild. The first of its kind, the 16-story condo/apartment building is a proof-of-concept built “top-down,” one floor at a time, with each floor constructed on the ground and raised into position.
Powell has had her design skill recognized by Imagio Glass, for whom she regularly contributes design commentary and blog content. She is also an active member and chairperson of the HBA of Southeastern MI’s Professional Women in Building Council, where she has coordinated events and programming to further opportunities and success for women in the construction industry. In addition, Powell was recognized as a member of the NKBA’s Thirty Under 30 Class of 2023.
She believes in fostering the success of the next generation of design professionals, by spending time to participate in educational events and act as a professional resource for the students at Michigan State University’s Interior Design program.
