Designer draws inspiration from Indian roots
Born and raised in the vibrant city of Chennai, India, Divya Vijayanandakumar initially pursued Computer Science, graduating with a bachelor’s degree. Her move to Silicon Valley in 2004 marked a pivotal shift in her career. It was there that her passion for design flourished, leading her to obtain an associate degree in Interior Design.
Her creative journey took her back to India in 2011, where she honed her skills at a prestigious residential design firm before launching her own design and build company, The Plan D, whose award-winning designs were featured in Vogue magazine. Additionally, in 2021, she was recognized with a National Association of Remodeling Industry Platinum award for a whole-house remodel project.
Recently honored with the ASID Award for an outstanding kitchen project, Vijayanandakumar is committed to fostering inclusivity and diversity. As a sought-after speaker, she also shares her expertise as a guest presenter for the Interior Design class at West Valley College, the American Institute of Architects and American Society of Interior Designers California Peninsula Chapters, where she is currently the first president-elect of South Asian descent in the chapter’s 50-year history.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Vijayanandakumar volunteers for a number of organizations, including Habitat for Humanity and the American Heart Institute, extending mentorship to children in rural India through Isha Vidhya.
