Sleek Style

This apartment in Pompano Beach, FL originally had just a small door into the kitchen, keeping the space closed off and separate from the rest of the living space. Ali Kavehzadeh was tasked with opening up the kitchen to make it look larger and more prominent. The desire was to create a shared space with the living area, which featured a beautiful view.
Creating an open floor plan was difficult due to the kitchen’s location in the corner of the apartment. A wastewater pipe on one side of the door and a construction wall on the other side limited what could be done as far as creating a totally open space. Still, the wall into the main living area was opened up as much as possible.
A simple color palette of white, black and wood creates a classic look, with flat panel doors minus hardware creating a streamlined appearance. A range hood over the cooktop is wrapped in matching wood, providing a seamless transition. A dishwasher, wall ovens and refrigerator/freezer add a smoky black element, while the gray-toned backsplash – which runs the length of the perimeter wall and wraps around the corner – adds pattern and texture to the otherwise sleek space.
The countertop features a marbled pattern and was extended beyond the kitchen into the larger space, giving more of an appearance of an open kitchen. At the other end, a waterfall edge neatly wraps around a peninsula that provides seating on one side.
