First Impressions
Shawna Roorda

When a high-end kitchen design firm made the decision to expand into the Austin, TX market, they knew they needed a bold new showroom display that would make a lasting first impression on the community. A large kitchen vignette was the ticket, and the design team endeavored to create a space that would reflect Japandi style with functional storage for office and showroom needs.
Because the vignette is located in a larger shared design center, the team encountered challenges when designing around other displays. Great pains were taken to avoid impeding other displays’ sightlines while creating the most impact possible in a small area.
Capturing the feel of Austin in one vignette was challenging, but through careful selection and design the team was able to create a warm and organic-feeling space with clean-lined custom cabinetry, natural and organic materials and finishes, and unique, thoughtful touches, such as an inlaid brass pattern on the cantilevered wood top.
