Sassy Modern

The biggest challenge in this kitchen renovation was finding a way to incorporate a fresh and modern design while honoring the aesthetic of the traditional, craftsman-style home, which is located in an older neighborhood rich with history. Plus, the client wanted to connect the kitchen with the dining room and infuse her unique personality and style into the home.
As such, a neutral color palette creates a cohesive base. For example, marble slabs for the countertops, backsplash and accent wall give the space a clean and sleek appearance. Light taupe cabinetry, accented with satin brass pulls and knobs from Forge Hardware Studio, creates an inviting atmosphere while adding warmth to prevent a sterile feel.
Additional renovations included adding a dry bar and nook where playful and sassy touches were incorporated to reflect the client’s personality. The former addresses the client’s love of entertaining. To reflect her individuality, Lindsay Cowles Black White Inverse Alta wallcovering sheaths the wall. The nook gives her and her daughter a place to hang out with their two pugs. A Brightbound Helix pendant adds a fun element while the leather and brass hooks for the back seat cushion infuse a blend of playfulness and sophistication. Black accents, including the pillows that coordinate with the wallpaper in the dry bar, give the nook an edgy vibe and coordinate with other black accents throughout the kitchen, including floating shelves, window trim and the Matte Black Delta faucet at the Blanco sink.
