Multi-Generational Kitchen Design
Sara Holdan
Stalburg Design, Bloomfield Hills, MI
A relocation back to Michigan from the Washington, DC area led this client to purchase a large home in order to bring her family together, which included adult siblings and a set of aging parents. Holdan was tasked with designing a functional and beautiful space for the family while providing formal areas for entertaining and family gathering. The kitchen served as a main focal point for the home, and it needed multiple and separate access points so each family member could come and go according to their individual schedules.
Along the perimeter walls, Perspectives Cabinetry in Hearthstone Grey finish features a raised panel design with Ashley Norton knurled hardware in satin nickel. It is paired with White Cobra polished marble with waterfall edges. The range hood with Wolf liner works with a 60″ dual-fuel range, also from Wolf.
Beneath the window on the far wall sits an Elkay Quartz Luxe Sink paired with a Hansgrohe Axor Citterio Pull-Out Kitchen Faucet, and both are repeated in the prep island. A 24″ paneled Fisher & Paykel dishwasher is situated here as well.
To meet the needs of the homeowner and extended family, two islands were incorporated into the kitchen. One provides a spot for each family member to sit for quick meals, while the other acts as a more functional space to cater to the homeowner’s passion for baking and cooking. Granite countertops here are Black Amani marble, which coordinate with the dark hue of the cabinets below.
The prep island is situated directly across from the range and is filled with specialty appliances, lifts for baking equipment, extra divided storage and dedicated electrical access. A 30″ Wolf Warming Drawer and 18″ Miele dishwasher are included.
Along the far wall, 36″ paneled refrigerator and freezer options from Sub-Zero are included.
