Natural Geometry
Matthew Kelly
Huang Iboshi Architecture, San Francisco, CA
Designer Matthew Kelly and the Huang Iboshi Architecture team approached this Los Altos Hills, CA powder bath with the intention of creating a surprising and playful jewel-box experience with its own unexpected flair. The marriage of nature and humanity was paramount in this design; the design team consciously selected materials sourced naturally, sustainably and locally where possible.
Circular design elements set against a dark Phillip Jeffries Grasscloth wallpaper deliver immediate visual impact, echoed from the backlit mirror to the striking wood RBW lighting sconces to the artisan terracotta clé Tile. A floating warm oak vanity is topped with a quartzite countertop that extends into a boldly veined backsplash, crowned with an understated yet texture-rich concrete vessel sink. A Gessi lavatory faucet and Jaclo drain in coordinating rosy copper hues provide a distinctive touch of color.
