Multi-Purpose Sanctuary
ALICIA SASO
Drury Design, Glen Ellyn, IL
For this primary bathroom project, the homeowners wanted to transform their awkward, T-shaped bathroom into a functional, multi-purpose sanctuary with enough room for yoga and light free-weight exercises while maintaining the bathroom’s aesthetic and functionality.
By removing a wall and replacing it with glass, Alicia Saso was able to transform the shower area into an open, airy retreat, allowing natural light to flow freely through the space. The walls are finished in Porcelanosa’s Old Beige tile, while the angled wall and ceiling sport Limestone Cream porcelain tile. Brizo polished chrome shower fittings complete the space.
On the opposite wall, a vanity from Grabill Cabinets in Old Town with the deep Sedona finish adds contrast and drama. It is topped with Vicostone Tyrol polished quartz and includes a white Kohler sink and Delta Faucet Starlight Chrome faucet.
On the other side of the room, a custom full-length mirror was strategically placed to accommodate multiple uses, creating a fitness studio-like experience for yoga or light weight training. The tub area beyond includes a soaker from Fleurco in white, sitting on top of Negro Marquina flooring to set the area apart.
Since the bathroom was positioned above the garage, the room would tend to feel colder than the adjacent primary bedroom. Installing Nuheat heated flooring provides consistent warmth and comfort year-round, enhancing the space for both workouts and daily routines. A European-style towel warmer from WarmlyYours brings additional warmth and a touch of luxury, elevating the overall experience.
