Mid-Century Nod

One of the biggest challenges of this renovation was improving the primary suite’s bathroom and closet layout by borrowing space from the oversized guest bathroom. The bath included an unnecessary bathtub and a cramped toilet alcove, while the primary suite’s bathroom felt small and disjointed. It featured a dark shower, an awkwardly shaped and undersized bathtub, and a toilet lacking privacy near a front-facing window. Additionally, poor access to natural light and outdated materials made the spaces feel closed-in and out of step with the rest of the home.
The redesign optimized space by reducing the footprint of the guest bathroom to a powder room and reallocating that area to expand the primary suite’s bathroom and closet. The new layout moved the closet to a darker interior zone, allowing the bathrooms to benefit from enhanced daylight. Privacy was addressed by relocating the Kohler San Souci toilet and shower away from windows and using frosted glass walls to provide privacy while maintaining an open feel.
A new window was added above the Kohler Underscore soaking tub with Hansgrohe Talis tub filler to bring in morning light. Finishes such as Silestone quartz surfacing from Cosentino in White Storm, warm walnut custom cabinetry with Kohler sink and faucet and green Roca CC Mosaics+ tile reminiscent of the original 1950s palette strike a balance between modern and mid-century heritage.
